About Me

Ceramics is the art form that has most allowed me to explore my thoughts in a more tactile way and to express my creativity in a challenging and rewarding way.

I have been studying ceramics since 2005. I began my journey at Berea College where I worked in the Ceramic Production Studio all four years of attendance. There I was taught to understand the concept of combining design along with visual aesthetics to create a unique and functional piece.

I describe my work as everyday items with character through alterations, texture and color. I work with a variety of clay bodies including a B clay body for its porcelain appearance because I love the black and white contrast for my designs. Lately I have enjoyed using a red earthenware clay body and a white underglaze. I feel like this color combination creates a lovely vintage, country chic vibe. I am greatly influenced by architectural elements and Art Deco floral motifs, and I incorporate these elements into my work through sgraffito, mishima, and slip trailing. I complete my work through oxidation firings to cone 6.
